Carlsberg has added two alcohol-free beers to its San Miguel range.
San Miguel 0.0% rolls out this month (February) to Tesco, Asda and convenience stores, while lemon-flavoured San Miguel 0.0% Limon will launch into Asda and c-stores in March.
Sold in a 330ml bottle (rsp: £3.49/four-pack) San Miguel 0.0% was the first alcohol-free Spanish lager, claimed Carlsberg, which described the beer as having “malty notes of barley that provide a subtle roasted flavour, with balanced bitterness to deliver great refreshment”.
San Miguel 0.0% Limon will be sold in a 330ml slim-line can (rsp: £3.49/four-pack) and is described as “an alcohol-free lager with real lemon juice, containing subtle malt and hop notes with the great lemon aroma and taste, for an easy drinking experience”.
Research indicated alcohol-free beers would play an important role in attracting different demographics into the beer category in the future, said Carlsberg UK brand and insight director David Scott.
“We constantly monitor consumer demand and respond to current trends with innovations in our portfolio,” he added. “The insight is showing there is consumer desire for great-tasting 0.0% beers, providing that same refreshing lager taste, for occasions when alcohol may not be a suitable choice.”
Low and no-alcohol beers are a growing trend in the beer category. Launches in the past two years have included Carling Zest, Carlsberg Citrus and Foster’s Radler.
