Schmoo, a lassi yoghurt drink made by a small Yorkshire start-up, has secured its first listing in the south east and will roll into 100 Tescos in London and Kent from 20 September.
The move comes after successful regional listings in Tesco stores in Yorkshire, Lancashire and Manchester since April. Schmoo has shifted about 32,000 units during the trial and is targeting total sales of 85,000 by Christmas.
The launch will be supported by a £1 promotion (rsp: £1.19) until January. The company is also in advanced talks with Ocado about an online listing for Schmoo, expected to be finalised in October.
Schmoo originally launched as Yalp! in 2009 and was listed in 400 Morrisons for three months. It performed well while on promotion, selling about 10,000 units a week, but struggled to take off after that because it only had one flavour.
