Seminars offer key insights into learning about wine
The Wine School at Food and Drink Expo offers a chance to taste and learn more about quality wines from around the world. Co-ordinated by the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) and sponsored by The Grocer’s stablemates at William Reed Publishing, Off Licence News and CLASS, the school will run daily seminars.
Subjects that will be covered include how to evaluate wine, as well as how to pair wine with cheese and other foods.
There will also be an opportunity to taste different types of rum.
Of particular interest to retailers and hospitality businesses is a seminar entitled Basic Introduction to Wine, run by WSET, which is designed to educate frontline staff on how to deal with and advise customers on the most straightforward elements of wine buying.
This course is targeted at hospitality and retail managers who can then take what they have learned and pass it on to their own staff - an approach that can be important for businesses with a lot of part-time staff and a high staff turnover.
Imogen Wines, from Western Australia, will supply wine for use in the sessions designed to pair wine with cheese. Two varietals will be on display - a Happs Winery Cabernet and a Verdelho from Moss Winery.
Tania Milosevic, Imogen Wines national manager, UK, says: “I am delighted with the opportunity to be involved at Expo.
“With so much competition in the UK wine market, the show represents a fantastic chance for us to put our wines forward and create some excitement around the brands.”
