Ayshire-based The Scottish Burger Company has signed a £500k deal to supply Scottish Tesco stores with its ‘butcher shop quality’ burgers.

The company was founded earlier this year by former butchers shop owners Alex and Carlyn Paton, who supply Tesco with pies under the We Hae Meat brand.

The range - launched in 49 Tescos across Scotland on 30 June - includes Lightly Seasoned Beef Steak Burgers, Chilli Beef Steak Burgers and Caramelised Onion Steak Burgers (rsp: £2.59/two-pack/227g), and a pack of Lightly Seasoned Beef Steak Sliders (rsp: £3/six-pack).

The burgers are produced in small batches using traditional butcher shop techniques and using beef sourced directly from the Payton family farm and other Scottish producers.

“Combining craft butchery with a ‘field to fork’ ethos, we’ve created a range in response to the changing appetites of consumers who are, more than ever before, questioning where their food comes from,” said Carlyn Paton.

The burgers will also be stocked by Aldi stores as part of the discounter’s ‘Weekend Special Buys’ promotion later this summer.
