Symbol group Select & Save has introduced a round of price cuts designed to turn up the heat on rivals Tesco and Bargain Booze.
The group has cut the prices of 60 everyday grocery items for a three-week promotion starting this month. The cuts are supported by a repeat of the retailer's Bag a Bargain campaign, which promises cheaper prices than both Tesco and Bargain Booze.
Select & Save joint MD Kam Sanghera said the group had checked the relevant prices against the other chains so its independents could "trade with confidence". The promotions include Müllerlight yogurts at four for £1 and a half-price deal on six-packs of Becks lager at £2.50.
Select & Save first launched a campaign claiming to be cheaper than Tesco in 2006. Last year, it began targeting Bargain Booze after the off-licence chain introduced a convenience offer. Select & Save claims such strategies havehelped the group grow store numbers 50% to 150.
