Sales of semi-skimmed milk continued to gain ground over the past year according to a survey commissioned by the Milk Development Council. While whole milk turnover declined 6.8% in the year to mid-October, those of semi-skimmed milk rose 4.1% and those of skimmed milk were up by 1.4%.
A survey by TNS of 15,000 consumers showed semi-skimmed held a share of 59% of the £2.13bn milk market. Whole milk accounted for 31% and skimmed 10%.
Meanwhile, retail prices for the three showed little difference with semi at 53.6p a litre, whole at 53.7p a litre and skimmed at 55.4p.
