Household and toiletries wholesaler Sert-MST has recorded a 19% jump in sales after completing its first year at a larger site.

Turnover grew to £120.1m in the year to 31 March, against a 12.6% slump the year before. Pre-tax profits soared from £378,083 to £2.1m during the period.

Sert-MST moved from two separate sites into its 285,000 sq ft depot in Derbyshire in June 2010, following its acquisition of M&S Toiletries.

The sales recovery reflected a full year of trading and the growth of its licensed toiletries business, MD Sabir Tayub said. “We also closed a few contracts by choice and took on new customers that are lower turnover but more profitable.”

Sert-MST holds licences for 19 brands and its Transformers tissues are listed in Boots. It is seeking listings with other multiples, as well as selling to its core base of independent retailers and pharmacies.

In November, the company won a contract to develop RSPCA-branded birdseed and accessories under its Petbase arm.

Head of buying Chris Roberts said the wider portfolio would allow it to increase the number of lines it sells to different types of retailers.
