Jan Shawe, Sainsbury's director of corporate relations, will be the new chair of the IGD board of directors. The appointment will take effect from September 30 when she will take over from Rob Knight from Dairy Farmers of Britain who has been IGD's chair since 2000. He will remain on the board as immediate past chairman.
Shawe has been a member of the board since September 2001 and since spring 2001 has chaired the Farmers' Fund Trustees, which administers the Farmers' Fund, the charity set up by seven major multiples to support the agricultural sector in the wake of the foot and mouth crisis.
Shawe said: "IGD brings together a range of expertise across food and drink manufacturers and the retail sector, who together have considerable influence over outcomes for consumers and suppliers. I very much look forward to contributing to these debates."
