An increase in the volume of crabsticks consumed by UK households illustrates the consumer's growing demand for snack foods, says the Sea Fish Industry Authority. At the beginning of March 1999, annual household consumption of crabsticks stood at 2,064t. Latest figures from TN Sofres Superpanel state volume to be at 3,594t. In the year to March 1999 households were spending just over £9.5m on crab sticks while in the year to March 2001 sales stood at £14.1m, a rise of 48%. Seafish retail development manager Andy Gray said: "Seafood can easily be incorporated into the snack market and become successful." {{M/E MEAT }}
