A selection of Britain's most popular grocery products are going head to head with food and drink brands from around the world in the judging for this year's prestigious Sial d'Or competition.
Guinness Draught in a bottle, Kit Kat Chunky, Yoplait Yo to Go, Young's Fish and Sauce, Birds Eye Wall's frozen herbs, Chicken Tonight Sizzle and Stir and Tesco Finest beef Wellington were chosen by a panel of the UK's most senior retailers.
Our panel was chaired by David McNair, chief executive of Food From Britain, and comprised Richard Brasher, Tesco's director marketing, operations manager; David Messom, general manager, category buying, at CWS; Morton Middleditch, chief executive of Spar UK; Mark Price, director of sales and marketing at Waitrose; and Steve Sharp, Booker's marketing director.
They looked at a shortlist of products drawn up by The Grocer covering a host of food and drink categories. In each category, the judges chose a product based on its commercial success, whether it was innovative and whether it met a genuine consumer need.
The seven products they voted for will now compete against brands from 24 other countries. A jury comprising journalists from each country votes for the best product in each category.
The jury will also nominate the best product from each country and choose the "best of the best" which will be awarded the global Sial d'Or.
The awards which are supported by The Grocer will be presented at a special ceremony during the Sial exhibition, which takes place in Paris in October.
The winners of the category awards will be announced in this magazine next month.
