Israel's Tivall Foods plans to launch a host of products in the UK  including what it claims is the first meat free fillet style steak. The new product is made using Tivall's patented fibrous vegetable protein (FVP) and was recently launched in Israel. It will arrive in the UK in late 2001 along with a chicken style product. UK md Maria Dooley said: "We see these products being offered with sauces and marinades suitable for UK consumers. It's an adult product with premium positioning." Also available next year in single portion packs is a range of Heat & Eat' frozen meat free snacks. Called Pitta Snax, it consists of pitta bread containing a choice of three fillings  doner kebab with a spicy sauce, hot dog with mustard sauce, and burger. The products are microwaveable in two to three minutes depending on variety. "The pitta has been specially developed to stay soft and malleable, and we are experimenting with the sauces," said Dooley. Tivall also launched four ready meals using FVP: chicken style Indian with rice, beef style goulash with potatoes, beef style couscous with vegetables, and meatballs style with pasta and vegetables, plus an organic vegetable burger. {{NEWS }}
