Marks and Spencer will take Simply Food to Ireland this year as it presses on with aggressive expansion plans for its food-only format.
The first Simply Food in the Irish Republic is scheduled to open in Dun Laoghaire, Dublin, in October, with further sites planned in large cities such as Cork, Limerick and Galway.
M&S is also looking at opportunities in Northern Ireland. "We are aiming for 150 Simply Food outlets overall by 2005, so we are researching opportunities throughout Ireland," said a spokesman.
