Asda is continuing the trend towards single-serve wine with the launch of 250ml bottles of French brand J.P. Chenet.
The supermarket is adding single Colombard/Chardonnay and Cabernet/Syrah to the range, following the success of the wines in 750ml format.
Tim North, UK director for Chenet producer Les Grands Chais de France, said single-serve bottles, sales of which are growing at 17% in the UK, were proving increasingly popular with consumers.
“To really exploit the potential of this format, we recommend that large stores merchandise them in a block,” he said. “In convenience outlets, they should be placed in chiller cabinets near the sandwich and food selection.”
The company forecasts sales of more than 2m single-serve bottles of J.P. Chenet this year, with a retail value of £3.6m.
The Grocer last week revealed that Ernest and Julio Gallo was planning its first foray into the single-serve format.
