It's official. Sir Anwar Pervez, chairman of wholesale group Bestway, is richer than Her Maj.
The Sunday Times Rich List put Sir Anwar and family at 138th with a fortune valued at £543m. The Queen was left trailing in 229th place with a mere £320m.
Also in the list, all at joint-527th with fortunes of £132m each, were Bestway MD Younus Sheikh, directors Adalat Chaudhary and son Arshad, and Abdul Bhatti and family.
All of the Bestway boys rose up the rankings this year - but that wasn't the case for poor old Bernard Matthews. He fell a less than Bootiful 223 places to 414th, with The Sunday Times' researchers knocking off £70m from his fortune to account for the bird flu outbreak earlier this year. Matthews is now worth a poultry £173m. Top of the pile, as usual, was David Sainsbury, at £2.13bn. As for the Tchenguiz brothers, they're worth a mere £850m. And remember: if you buy one, you get one free.
