Sir Ken Morrison, chairman of Morrisons, has delivered on his promise to appoint a fourth non-executive director, with fund management veteran Paul Manduca joining the board.
The appointment comes four months after Sir Ken told shareholders at the retailer’s May agm that he would appoint four non-executive directors.
In June he appointed Nigel Robertson, Brian Flanagan and Susan Murray as non-executive directors and at the time said another would be appointed within the next month.
Manduca was most recently European chief executive of Deutsche Asset Management.
He was also chief executive of Rothschild Asset Management and the founding chief executive of Threadneedle Asset Management. He takes up his position with immediate effect. Sir Ken said: “We are delighted that Paul Manduca has agreed to join the Morrisons board. His knowledge and understanding of the City and the needs of institutional shareholders will be of immense benefit to the company.”
Paul Smiddy, an analyst at RW Baird, said the appointment was a good choice for the retailer. “Manduca is obviously a City heavyweight and will increase Morrisons’ knowledge of how the City operates.
“However, he is not an obvious candidate to succeed as chairman so the question still remains open as to who this will be.”
Robert Wiseman Dairies has appointed Beverley Hodson as a non-executive director. Hodson is currently a non-executive director of building society Legal & General and was previously an executive director for WHSmith.
Dairy Farmers of Britain has re-elected David Wilkinson as vice chairman. Wilkinson was elected on to the board of directors in 2003 and became VC in 2004. Mark Heywood and Wendy Radley are appointed non-executive directors, replacing Michael Arlington and John Cook.
Following The Real Good Food Company’s acquisition of Napier Brown Foods last month, Pat Ridgwell, former chairman of Napier Brown, has been appointed non-executive deputy chairman. Chris Thomas, the former CEO of Napier Brown, has been appointed a non-executive director.
