TV chef and cookery writer Anjum Anand has launched seven premium home cooking sauces into Waitrose.
The Spice Tailor range of ambient sauces (rsp: £2.89/255g) are hand-made in small batches in India. The line-up, inspired by regional Indian cusine, comprises Punjabi Tomato Curry, Delicate Korma Curry, Rustic Rogan Josh, Keralan Coconut Curry, Mangalore Herb Curry, Original Tikka Masala and Spicy Spinach Curry Sauce.
The range is free from artificial preservatives or colourings and is set to roll out to other supermarkets this autumn. It is packaged in transparent plastic pouches designed to stand out in a category dominated by glass jars. "There is a gap in the market for premium-quality, restaurant-standard Indian sauces and The Spice Tailor will fill that gap and appeal to all groups," said sales director Barry Smethurst.
