Martians' favourite mashed potato brand Smash is now available in a new format, with the launch of Smash Wedgers, said to be the first complete potato based meal in a can.
These consist of potato wedges with sauce and come in chilli, tikka, tuna, sausage and cheddar flavours.They are positioned as a meal, snack or meal accompaniment and rsp is 79p for 400g.
The launch is one of several aimed at expanding the brand beyond instant mashed potato products. These include hash browns mix Smash Browns. More new products are due to follow.
A media campaign is planned for autumn including TV ads featuring the brand's alien ambassadors.
Smash brand manager Michael Knight said the new product was "a natural development", and predicted that it would attract new consumers as well as regular users.
