Newspaper and magazine wholesaler Smiths News has extended its contract with Guardian News & Media until February 2021.
The five-year extension worth £63m annually equates to 7% of the national newspaper distribution market. Guardian News & Media publishes both The Guardian and The Observer, which sell 180,000 and 200,000 papers daily respectively.
Following this extension, Smiths News said it had now secured £1.2bn of revenues per annum through to 2019, equating to 84% of total sales.
The news follows five-year contract wins for Smiths News in April with magazine distributors Frontline and Seymour, valued at about £215m a year.
