Snappy Shopper has added voice search functionality to its convenience store home delivery app.
Using Apple’s voice recognition technology, the new feature can be accessed by a user by tapping the microphone in the search box after selecting a store.
The new feature is available in the iOS versions of the Snappy Shopper app, as well as the white labelled apps it provides other retailers such as Premier, Co-op, Costcutter, One Stop and Nisa.
“This update is part of Snappy Shopper’s ongoing efforts to improve accessibility on iOS,” a Snappy spokeswoman said.
The app also supports Apple screen-reader VoiceOver, designed to increase accessibility for blind and low-vision users, as well as for users with dyslexia.
Snappy Shopper, which launched in 2017, has onboarded more than 2,000 convenience stores on to its app. It promises incremental sales, with 80% of app shoppers being new to the stores they purchase from, and an average basket spend of £26.
The updates come during a time of heightened competition in the convenience rapid delivery space, following the arrival earlier this year of Booker’s consumer-facing app Scoot, which will be exclusive to its symbol estate and Co-op’s Peckish, a grocery delivery app aimed at independents.
