Property tycoon Gerald Ronson has created one of the UK’s largest roadside retailers by merging his two petrol retailing businesses, Snax 24 and Rontec.
The enlarged Rontec group will have a portfolio of 210 stores operating under the Shop ‘N Drive, Family Shopper and Spar brands, with combined annual sales of £1.5bn. The move to convert all 44 of the Snax 24 sites to Shop ‘N Drive or Family Shopper stores is almost complete.
The merger follows a 12-month acquisition spree by Rontec worth £100m, and coincides with the signing of a new supply deal with BP worth a potential £1bn over the next five-years.
“The merging of my forecourt interests represents the culmination of 49 years in the industry,” said chairman of Rontec Gerald Ronson CBE.
“The addition of Snax 24’s portfolio to Rontec’s sites strengthens what is already a formidable company run by one of the most professional and experienced teams in the sector.”
He added: “[The merger] enables us to sign major deals with suppliers such as BP, with whom we have a 30-year relationship.”
