snow affected stores

Winter weather has caused disruption over the weekend, leading to some online deliveries either being late or cancelled

Customers have faced cancellations and delays to their online grocery orders over the past 24 hours as snow makes its way across the UK.

Twitter users complained of disruption across the big four and Ocado due to the poor weather conditions. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow and ice across much of the country.

Sainsbury’s said on its website that drivers were having to take ‘extra care on the roads’ and warned there may be some resulting delays. One Twitter user said their order had been cancelled 22 hours after it was due to be delivered, while another said their Sainsbury’s order had not materialised despite payment being taken.

Several Twitter users reported their Tesco deliveries had failed to arrive on time or at all, and customers at Morrisons and Asda said their orders had been cancelled without notification.

One Ocado customer said their delivery was still marked as ‘on its way’ more than 12 hours after it was due to arrive.

Morrisons said there had been “a few pockets of disruption” due to the poor weather. Ocado said its snow plan had meant most of its deliveries were on schedule despite the “major disruption” on the roads. “Unfortunately we had to cancel a few deliveries today and yesterday where the roads were impassable or staff could not get in,” said a spokesman. “We apologise for any inconvenience and hope to be back to normal tomorrow.”

Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Asda did not respond to The Grocer’s request for comment.
