The Soap Co, the sustainable personal care brand from social enterprise Clarity & Co, has ramped up its portfolio to target Christmas shoppers.
The London supplier – which mainly employs disabled and vulnerable workers – has added Exfoliating Coffee Scrub (rsp: £25/250g), made using Fairtrade roasted coffee grains from fellow social enterprise Cafédirect and packed in a glass jar with an aluminium lid.
It is joined in the same format by Mineral Soak in two variants: Neroli & Rosemary and Sandalwood & Bergamot (rsp: £22/220g). They include Epsom and pink Himalayan salts, and a Fairtrade tea blend from NEMI Teas, a social enterprise that supports and employs refugees.
All three Soap Co innovations are 100% natural, vegan and plastic-free. Their minimalist labels are made from 100% recycled paper and vegetable-based ink, and feature graphics in braille.
The premium brand has also unveiled limited-edition Black Oud & Jasmine handwash (rsp: £29/300ml) in a 300ml aluminium bottle – and it has poured its existing Geranium & Rhubarb and Wild Nettle & Sage handwashes (rsp: £19) and hand lotions (rsp: £22) into the same plastic-free packaging.
The aluminium bottle was “infinitely recyclable” said Soap Co. “Choosing these over the more favoured plastic will help save energy and natural resources. Recycling one tonne of aluminium saves the equivalent carbon dioxide emissions of driving nearly 27,000 miles.”
The overhauled selection of personal care lines “represents a big step forward for Soap Co as we move to eliminate non-functional plastic from our products” added the brand. It aims to secure A Plastic Planet’s ‘Plastic Free’ accreditation for around 30 of its products by spring 2020.
