Tony Solomons will become the supply chain director at Waitrose on January 30, replacing Geoff Salt who is moving up to his new role as director of selling.
Solomons is personnel director at Waitrose, a position he has held since 1995. He had previously worked with the food retailer as a branch manager and an operations manager. His early career was spent in production management and product development.
As supply chain director, Solomons will be responsible for all 166 Waitrose branches, including the 19 ex-Safeway stores acquired in March.
Since then, Waitrose has increased its distribution capacity by extending its Bracknell distribution centre and developing a new facility at Bardon.
Salt’s promotion resulted from the appointment of former director of selling and marketing, Mark Price, to the main board of parent company the John Lewis Partnership as development director in November (The Grocer, November 27, p18).
