Somerfield is aiming to help customers have a healthier Christmas by applying the GDA labelling scheme to recipes in its magazine.
The chain opted for GDA front-of-pack labelling earlier this year, eschewing the multiple traffic light system of food labelling favoured by the FSA and some rivals.
In the Christmas edition of the Somerfield magazine, recipes for the festive season are accompanied by pastel-coloured panels spelling out levels of calories, sugar, fat, saturates and salt in each recipe. As part of its advice on what the GDAs represent, the magazine warns readers: "Do not add salt while cooking or at the table."
