Spar has promoted two controllers to directors in its trading department. Chris Lewis is buying director with responsibility for proprietary brand licensed products, and Mark Keeley has become buying director for all other proprietary products.
Lewis joined Spar in 1998 as licensed trading controller from Nisa-Today's where he worked specifically for CBC and the launch of the licensed element of Nisaway.
Keeley has been with Spar as trading controller for impulse and grocery for over five years having previously worked at Nurdin & Peacock as trading controller.
Managing director Jerry Marwood said that the Keeley/Lewis team had become a powerful trading partnership in recent years and that their promotion provides further confirmation that Spar is serious in its ambition to make greater use of its buying muscle and capitalise on its position as the leader in the convenience sector.
He said: "We are continuing to add weight to our trading team at Harrow by investing in new personnel as evidenced by our current press advertisements for a trading controller and trading manager. This restructure of our trading department is a key element in our long-term strategy of making the most of our £2bn plus turnover and our increased retail disciplines."
