Spar Ireland, part of Appleby Westward parent BWG Foods, has trademarked its new premium range Spar Select with the UK Intellectual Property Office, but claims it has no plans to bring it to the UK yet.
The range was launched last month in Ireland and comprises more than 100 premium quality own-label products sourced “from the finest local producers.”
Though Select has been trademarked in the UK, Simon Marriott, trading director of BWG Foods, said there were no plans to launch it in the UK through Appleby Westward. BWG has predicted Select, the first premium range for an Irish c-store chain, will generate €7.5m (£5.9m) in sales in its first two years.
