Spar Scotland has introduced healthy eating promotional stands to support a government-funded programme led by the Scottish Grocers Federation.
Twelve Spar stores have got behind the Healthy Living Programme highlighting a range of healthy products to customers.
Each stand will be merchandised with a selection of healthy items including loose fresh fruit, water and porridge.
The programme, which launched in 2004, is fully funded by the Scottish government and aims to connect local schools with convenience retailers.
So far it has engaged with more than 13,000 school children across the country.
“We are delighted to work with Healthy Living Programme on this trial,” said Spar Scotland marketing manager Paula Middleton. “We will monitor sales throughout the test period to see what impact the stands have in store. We continue to support Healthy Living Programme and the work they are doing to highlight healthier products in convenience stores. It is very important that we encourage customers to embark on a healthy lifestyle and eat healthily.”
Gillian Edgar, field manager from the Scottish Grocery Fund Healthy Living Programme said: “The Healthy Living Programme is excited to be given the opportunity to trial our new stands with Spar Scotland. The trial will see the stores promoting not only fresh produce but other healthier products at the front of the store. This is a positive example of how Spar Scotland is taking on the role of responsible retailing and ensuring their customers have a healthier option to choose from.”
