Sales of own-brand sweetcorn were up 46% at Spar this summer, thanks to a joint promotion run by the retailer and supplier Lovering Foods.
As part of a national in-store promotion aimed at raising money for charity ChildLine, the retailer ran a two-for-£1 promotion on 320g cans of sweetcorn, with 1p from each can donated to the cause.
The deal led to a 46% sales uplift on volumes of the sweetcorn, above predicted sales.
“Spar retailers did a great job of helping us raise funds for ChildLine by promoting the two for £1 deal on Spar Sweetcorn in their stores,” said Spar grocery trading manager Jonathan Conrad.
“The promotion shows how important it is to both our own-brand suppliers and Spar retailers across the country to make a difference to young people in the communities we serve,” he added.
The promotion raised £1,000 for the charity.
