Spar has teamed up with mobile payments and loyalty app Zapper.
Six of Appleby Westward’s Gillett’s Spar stores in Plymouth and Exeter are working with Zapper, while Spar said it was working with its other regional wholesalers on a wider rollout.
Shoppers scan a QR code at the till and pay using the Zapper app. The app processes payments, voucher redemption and loyalty card updates within seconds.
“We are focused on offering excellent customer service. Working with Zapper means that customers are motivated to shop at Spar rather than at a competitor store. Our customers have many great reasons to shop with us and there are enormous benefits to retaining and rewarding them,” said Spar UK retail director Ian Taylor.
“We continue to develop exciting modern and relevant convenience stores and Zapper mobile payment rewards loyalty and enables our customers to pay for their goods faster, which in turn will encourage repeat use in store.”
Brands can also access data on individual baskets to help them target their campaigns, sending targeted offers, promotions and vouchers to consumers based on previous spend.
Brand-specific digital vouchers can be send within seconds via the Zapper app to consumers, directing them into Spar UK and other convenience retail stores to redeem their vouchers.
Since launching in the UK last December, Zapper has teamed up with Nisa and Booker as well as the NFRN as it looks to focus on the convenience sector. It also works with major suppliers Coca-Cola, Weetabix and Birds Eye.
