Angela Spindler, Asda’s category and strategy director, has been named executive managing director of the retailer’s clothing brand George.
In her new role, Spindler will take full responsibility for both George and George Global, replacing Andy Bond who left the role in March to head Asda.
Asda said that Spindler’s key focus at George would be to create one team across George and George Global.
This will have responsibility for all aspects of the George
business including retail, supply and distribution.
Spindler joined the retailer in 1997 as business unit director for chilled foods and a year later for meat and produce. In 1998 she was promoted to the role of deputy trading director, joining Asda’s management board and taking responsibility for supplier strategy, value engineering and pricing with her business unit responsibilities.
Following the acquisition of Asda by Wal-Mart, she was appointed food trading director, heading all food business units, and in 2001 became retail development director, with responsibility for property acquisition and planning, store development and design and e-commerce.
In May this year she became trading and marketing director and in September customer strategy director.
Prior to joining Asda, Spindler held roles at Pedigree Petfoods and Cadbury Schweppes.
Bryan Portman has been appointed chief financial officer of The Co-operative Group. Portman joins from its financial services arm Co-operative Financial Services where he was chief operating officer for its life and savings business and finance and investment activities. He replaces Paul Hewitt who became deputy chief executive in June.
South Africa’s Omnia Wines has appointed Chris O’Shea as executive director of sales and marketing, replacing Anton du Toit. O’Shea joins from Irish wines and spirits distributor Edward Dillon where he was corporate development director.
SABMiller has appointed Alejandro Santo Domingo Davila and Carlos Alejandro Perez Davila as non-executive directors. The pair are both managing directors at Quadrant Capital Advisors.
