Starbucks has launched a new nitrogen-infused cold brew coffee to selected stores.
Nitro Cold Brew, which is served chilled from a bar tap, will be available in 100 stores across the UK this summer.
The drink takes the existing Starbucks Cold Brew recipe, which launched in the UK last year, and infuses it with nitrogen to “unlock the super-smooth, natural sweetness of the coffee”.
The addition of nitrogen also makes the caffeine travel through the body and take effect faster than a regular coffee.
“This is an entirely different kind of cold coffee experience - one we think will revolutionise the category and the way our customers think about our cold coffee menu,” said .
Nitro Cold Brew will launch in the Starbucks Reserve Bar in London’s Covent Garden before rolling out to the rest of the UK.
“London is one of the most competitive coffee markets and so we’re delighted to bring this to our customers here first, with plans to bring it to more stores around the country this summer. We have an exciting year planned, bringing our expertise in hot coffee to cold, and demonstrating our investments in coffee-forward product innovations combined with the passion of our skilled baristas.”
Starbucks is also launching Cappuccino Freddo - espresso poured over ice and topped with cold skimmed milk foam - and Cold Brew Vanilla Sweet Cream - a fresh vanilla syrup cream poured over cold brew coffee - alongside the Nitro Cold Brew.
