Soft drinks company Britvic has appointed former Allied Domecq marketer Simon Stewart as its new marketing director.

Stewart replaces Andrew Marsden, who left the company after 10 years last September.

With effect from 4 February, Stewart will be responsible for the development and marketing of Britvic's brand portfolio as well as innovation and insight. He will report to chief executive Paul Moody.

Stewart, who has more than 18 years experience in fmcg, began his marketing career with the Coca-Cola Company in Australia and worked across brand management and strategic development in Sydney, Atlanta and the South Pacific region.

Stewart then moved to Diageo where he ultimately became vice president marketing for the Smirnoff brand. More recent roles include chief marketing officer for Allied Domecq Spirits & Wine and EMAP.

"Simon has a proven track record in building brands in the fmcg sector, with strong experience in drinks," said Britvic chief executive, Paul Moody.

Britvic is one of the two leading branded soft drinks businesses in the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

The company claims to be the largest supplier of still soft drinks and the number two supplier of carbonated drinks.

Marsden, who left 18 months after the company's flotation, was Britvic's longest serving director.

He was generally acknowledged by the industry for turning Robinsons into a leading grocery brand and launching a number of innovative products including J20, Fruit Shoot and Fruit Shoot H20.
