Stokes has poured its sauces into 100% recycled squeezy bottles.
New bottles made from food-grade recycled plastic will replace the brand’s current squeezy bottles over the coming week across its five-strong core range: Tomato Ketchup, Reduced Sugar Tomato Ketchup, Real Mayonnaise, Brown Sauce and Original Barbecue.
Stokes said it was the first to use 100% recycled squeezy sauce bottles in the UK, marking an ”integral step” in its plans to become ‘zero to landfill’ by 2021.
The packs feature “clear messaging” on the label, explaining why the plastic has a “slightly darker tinge” than before, something Stokes said was “an inevitable result of using recycled materials”.
Stokes founder and MD Rick Sheepshanks said despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the brand “felt very strongly that we needed to press ahead with this important change”.
“We are facing a monumental plastic problem on a global scale and our responsibility to do more when it comes to reducing our plastic usage has not gone away.”
