The strategic decision to launch Stowells of Chelsea in 75cl bottles is paying off.
Matthew Clark said the brand had sold a million bottles (83,000 cases) since introduction last September.
Initially there were six styles. This was increased to 12. It has 50% distribution in the off-trade and is listed by all the major multiples except First Quench and Waitrose. Safeway is taking on some styles next month.
Senior brand manager Clare Griffith said: "The success lies in the offer of quality wines for everyday drinking. All are priced between £3.99 and £4.49, putting them in the fastest growing price band in the wine market."
The brand dominates the wine box market and is available in three litre and 10 litre formats. Since 1998 it has also been available in 25cl bottles. There are 26 different styles from 11 countries.
Brand volume grew 25% in the 12 months to June. It continues to be the UK's leading wine brand. It is supported by a £9m budget including a £1.2m press campaign running this month and next.
