Excellent growing conditions and additional planting mean that exports of Israeli strawberries to the UK will be heavier than ever before this season, according to Amos Orr, UK manager for Agrexco, the country’s largest shipper.
“In total we would expect the UK to receive around 1,800 tonnes by mid March, which will be 15%-20% more than last season,” he said.
The first fruit is due to arrive at the end of this month with a significant increase in volumes of the Yuval variety.
Orr added: “We conservatively estimate that there has also been around a 10% increase in planting.”
