Independent Asian supermarket Mullaco has defied the credit crunch by opening a second store in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.
The 10,000 sq ft store, which used to be a Kwik Save, sells 5,000 lines including fruit and veg, halal meat and a wide variety of herbs and spices. It has created 20 jobs for the town.
Director Ahmed Mulla said trade had been strong since the store opened a week ago.
“I’m very surprised at the interest,” he added. “There’s a good market for Asian supermarkets but at least 40% of our customers are from the white community.”
