US sandwich chain Subway is to roll out 400 concessions in convenience stores and multiple grocers in mainland UK in the next five years.
The move follows a successful tie-in with Northern Irish symbol operator the Henderson Group, in which it currently operates four concessions in the group’s company-owned Spar stores. One of the first non-traditional outlets on the mainland is undergoing a trial at a Spar and BP forecourt in Birmingham.
Paul Heyes, Subway development director, said the partnership with Henderson’s would be a strong model for developing further sites.
Heyes said: “We are talking to all major multiple and convenience retailers in the UK. Naturally, because the Spar stores in Northern Ireland have proved an excellent fit, Spar would be the first to adopt this approach in the UK.”
