Fast-food sandwich chain Subway has opened its first-ever store in an Asda supermarket.
The Subway store, which has opened within the Old Kent Road Asda superstore, represents an “exciting opportunity”, according to Richard White, head of estates optimisation at Asda.
He said today: “This is a unique and exciting opportunity for Asda to work with Subway. We are delighted to bring forward an enhanced offer to our existing Old Kent Road customers.”
Subway said there are currently 300 stores open or in development within non-traditional locations, such as forecourt sites or convenience stores.
“The non-traditional locations are a key area of growth for the Subway brand in the UK and Ireland,” added Trevor Haynes, area development manager at Subway UK.
“The simple operations that are involved in running a Subway franchise and the convenience offer make it a perfect fit for these style locations.”
In June, Subway opened its first franchise in a Lidl supermarket, while in May it announced an extension of its tie-up with Euro Garages, with plans to add 70 concessions to the 30 it already has with the forecourt operator.
