Subway will kick off a trial of a new home delivery service in the new year.
The food to go operator has decided to look into home delivery after a number of its franchisees successfully trialled home delivery independently with external food delivery companies.
“Subway is always looking at new innovative ways to meet our customers’ increasing demands, including home delivery,” said a Subway spokeswoman.
“Currently in the UK we have individual franchisees who have partnered with third party food delivery companies, offering the service on a store-by-store basis. Due to its success, the brand will be trialling a delivery service in London in the new year and we look forward to releasing further details very soon.”
It is not the first big brand to go down this route. Greggs’ announced in October that it was partnering with UberEats for its first home delivery trial in Newcastle.
Subway currently has 2,500 stores and pledged to expand its UK and Irish stores to 3,000 by 2020 earlier this year, generating about 5,000 new jobs.
It is also currently overhauling its store design as part of its Fresh Forward programme.
The store refurbishment programme revamps store displays and introduces digital menus, and will have been rolled out at eight locations by Christmas. Subway plans to remodel all of its existing stores with the new design over the next few years.
