Superdrug is set to open 25 new stores throughout 2025, creating about 600 jobs.
The health & beauty retailer said retail parks and destination stores would be a focus of the expansion, after sales in its 100 largest branches grew by 25% last year, while footfall rose by 8%.
Superdrug opened its first new store of 2025 in Leeds Briggate in late February. Other places with a new Superdrug on the way this year include Cribbs Causeway near Bristol, and Guernsey.
The retailer also plans to refurbish 65 shops this year and extend others, including branches in Meadowhall Sheffield, Luton and Dundee, expanding store footprint by up to 100%.
Every new and refurbished store would be as sustainable and energy-efficient as possible, according to Superdrug.
“We want everyone who enters Superdrug to feel an elevated customer experience. For us, this is not about a quick and easy purchase, it is about engaging customers with added extras that truly enrich their everyday lives,” said Superdrug property director Nigel Duxbury.
“Be that through updated cosmetic stands which can be found in our Brent Cross store, or via great beauty treatments that everyone can afford regularly, or through private clinics that give face-to-face access to healthcare professionals.
“We can see from our sales last year that investing in and increasing the number of large format stores in our estate allows us to accelerate our bricks and mortar strategy, so that we can bring the bigger and better shopping experience, that we know our customers love, to even more communities across the UK.”
