World food specialist Surya Foods has launched 60 frozen SKUs into Tesco following a £20m investment.
Introduced over the past month, the new Tesco lines comprise world food brands Dayat, Gino’s Pizza, Hortex, Humza, Sympli, Jawo, Bantuway and Vadilal.
Surya has also launched 40 new frozen SKUs from Ginos, Sympli and Humza into Morrisons, with Humza going into 400 stores nationwide in a bid to bring samosa into the mainstream market.
An established supplier of ambient world food into UK retail, Surya had made “a number of strategic moves” to expand into frozen over the past year, said MD Harry Dulai.
“We noticed a significant gap in the market for frozen world foods and have gone full steam ahead to bring quality ranges on board across Caribbean, Asian and Oriental cuisines,” he added.
“Our first move was to join forces with Bantuway - a leading UK specialist African meat producer. This partnership was swiftly followed by our company’s acquisition of leading halal frozen food brand Humza, and soon after the leading halal fast food brand Gino’s. ”
The supplier has also acquired UK distribution rights for a “raft of leading ethnic frozen bands” including Indian ice cream player Vadilal and Nigerian frozen fruit and veg brand Sympli Natural Nigeria, which has listings in Tesco, Morrisons and Asda.
