Sustainable packaging innovator Xampla – the architect of the “first” edible stock cube wrapper – has expanded its team with two senior hires.

Hannah Pearse has joined as nutrition business development manager, and Agnieszka Mizgier has been brought on as quality and food safety manager.

Pearse brings “a wealth of experience in product development and improvement” to the business, having previously worked in nutrition and food technology roles at Nestlé and Sainsbury’s. She joined Xampla this month from her previous role as business development manager for health and wellbeing at the University of Suffolk.

In her role as nutrition business development manager, Pearse will be responsible for boosting Xampla’s sales strategy for ingredient products. She will engage key figures in the food and beverage industry for the company’s nutrition, edible films and packaging applications.

Mizgier, meanwhile, also brings “significant experience” to the business, having joined from her previous role as group technical director for Camstar Ingredients, where she served as contact for all customers and external regulatory bodies, including trading standards.

In her role at Xampla, Mizgier will lead technical developments of quality and food safety processes, working with key suppliers for new product approvals.

Both Pearse and Mizgier will support the business with product launches and partnerships to be announced over the next 12 months.

They have joined Xampla following the announcement of its tie-up with Britvic in February 2022.

As reported by The Grocer, the University of Cambridge-backed company partnered with soft drinks giant Britvic to develop a new technology which can protect vitamins within fortified drinks from sunlight.

In October 2021, it joined forces with meal kit service Gousto to trial what it claimed was an “industry-first” edible stock cube wrapper.

“This is a great time to join such a successful team,” said Pearse.

“What is special about Xampla is the way the company works with its customers and potential customers to ensure our materials can drop in to existing production lines and processes. That is the route to really fast and substantial scaling of our model.”

Xampla executive chair Pete Hutton said: “We are proud to welcome Hannah and Agnieszka to Xampla, and look forward to benefiting from their wealth of industry knowledge and experience.

“Following our successful launches in 2022 with Gousto and Britvic, and the launch of our films and microcapsules, we look forward to announcing further industry partnerships this year.

“Our industry-leading team put us in the best position for continued success and growth over the next 12 months.”
