Symington’s has secured licensing deals to bring Thorntons home baking and dessert mixes and Robinsons-branded jellies to market.
Launching in Asda this month, the Thorntons line-up comprises six products including Mini Chocolate Tortes, Chocolate Cake and a Marbled Cheesecake (all rsp: £2.49). Symington’s expects the range to roll out to other supermarkets during the summer.
The launch comes as overall home baking sales are down 1.1% by value [IRI 52 w/e 24 May 2014]. Symington’s claimed the launch would bring “the exciting NPD and indulgence that’s currently missing in the category.”
Also launching into Asda this month ahead of a wider rollout are Robinsons Jellies, designed to mirror the taste of the brand’s fruit cordials. They will be available in flavours including orange, summer fruits and apple & blackcurrant, and will come in two formats - 125g Jelly Pots (rsp: 50p) and 11.5g crystal sachets (rsp: 43p). The pots will be sold in standard and no-added-sugar versions.
The deal was arranged by Start Licensing, licensing agents of Robinsons owner Britvic.
Symington’s this week recalled a single batch of 454g jars of Ragu White Lasagne Sauce after a small number of jars returned pH results that did not comply with food industry safety standards for pasteurised products and could present a food safety risk. The affected batch is barcode (EAN) 5050665016231; production ‘Julian’ code L416200086; time codes 17.14 - 18.01; best before 06/2016.
