From Grape-2-Wine. A new wine from organic grapes by Claudio Barria in Chile
THE EXPERT Sally Easton
Master of Wine and wine buyer for Berry Brothers and Rudd
On the nose there is a warm sensation of high alcohol and a hint of red berry fruit. The palate is hot and spicy with woody notes and a slightly bitter finish. The wine is out of kilter, with the heat from the high alcohol dominating the palate. Organic wine' is promoted on the bottle almost equally to the name of the wine. I am assured the wine is made from organically grown grapes (the current legal definition). But sadly this represents a good reason why one should not buy wines simply because they have organic origins. Organic is not necessarily good, and this wine proves it. Success rating out of 25 2

As a big organic fan I welcome new products from this sector of the market. At 14% alcohol this is a powerful wine, but the overall presentation accentuates the heaviness. The weighty Burgundy style bottle is good but the rich maroon label and gold foiling are too much. I am afraid it is all a bit cobbled together with a very last minute label declaring organic status, but with no information on genuine organic certification. Success rating out of 25 10

This is a big earthy wine which is high in alcohol and has harsh tannins. You would struggle to quaff it but it would go well with food. The presentation could be much better I've never seen a label that mentioned phylloxera before! The rsp of £5.50 seems high but as the wine claims to be produced organically that is to be expected. This will be a hard sell and needs a better label with clearer definition of what organic' actually entails. The presentation isn't good enough. The liquid is average to harsh. The price is too high and unless you are already successfully selling organics, I would leave well alone.
