Premium snacks brand Taylors Snacks saw a big boost in sales last year after Mackie’s exited the business to focus solely on Ice Cream and chocolate.
The Taylor family are Scottish farmers and initially launched a range of crisps in 2009 as a joint venture with Scottish food group Mackie’s.
Initially branded as Mackie’s, the name changed to Taylors after the family took full control of the company in July 2022.
The company’s revenue was up 16% to £16.8m in the year to 30 June 2024 as its range of crisps, popcorn and lentil chips proved popular with Scottish shoppers.
It was still unable to deliver a profit, however, posting a pre-tax loss of £317k. This was an improvement from a £1.9m loss the year before.
The Taylor family has farmed in Scotland for around 100 years. The company chairman, George Taylor, made the decision to diversify into potato washing and packing with the creation of the Taypack business in the 1980s.
He then decided to move into crisps in 2009 after spotting a lack of quality Scottish crisps on the market.
Its crisps are still produced at a factory near the family farm in Perthshire, and include flavours such as Haggis, Pickled Onion and Aberdeen Angus.
