Fledgling brand Tea Rex is launching what it claims is the world’s first fresh cold-press fruit tea.
Two variants are currently available: Wakey Wakey Rise & Rawr (turmeric, lemongrass & ginger) and Rip Rawring Berry Time (blackberry, raspberry, blueberry, ginger & lemon). They are rolling out this week to Whole Foods Market with an rsp of £4.49 for a 100g pack of five servings.
The fresh, wet tea is made from nothing but fruit and roots, and has a two-month shelf life. It is high-pressure processed rather than pasteurised. It had “total traceability of the origins of each individual ingredient, only using the highest quality, ethically sourced fruits and roots” said Tea Rex.
To make a cup, drinkers use an over-the-cup filter, supplied with each pack, to “create a real ritual”.
The teas are free from caffeine and preservatives and contain no added sugar or artificial flavouring. Their launch comes after Tea Rex raised almost £8000 via crowdfunding last year to support its growth and expansion, hitting its funding target in 12 days.
Tea Rex founder Andrew Walker said the brand wanted to shake up a fruit infusions category that was “a world of amazing flavours and all-round goodness” which been “dehydrated into a dried beige, which smells of fruit but tastes of dishwater”.
Talks were underway over listing with two online retailers, he added.
