Miles Templeman took over the chairmanship of Shepherd Neame from Bobby Neame at the company’s agm last week.
Templeman began his career in advertising before joining Beecham Foods as a product manager for Ribena and Lucozade. He became MD of Threshers off-licences upon joining Whitbread in 1985 and in
1990, he became MD of the Whitbread Beer Company.
Meanwhile, shareholders at the agm called for an end to the year-long Neame family dispute, which culminated in an employment tribunal in July.
Former vice-chairman Stuart Neame resigned in 2003 after a boardroom bust-up, in which he expressed a loss of faith in 70-year-old chairman Bobby, and a growing conviction that parts of the company's trading operations were unprofitable. The tribunal ruled against Stuart’s claim of constructive dismissal.
The agm proved that the feud showed no sign of abating: Jonathan Neame, chief executive, launched a tirade against Stuart, who put forward a series of resolutions that were defeated by shareholders.
