Tesco has teamed up with Yeo Valley to trial pick-and-mix ’yoghurt bars’ in 160 stores, allowing shoppers to create their own, customised yoghurts with a choice of toppings, compotes and sauces.
The Yeo Valley Pick ‘n’ Mix range comprises four yoghurt bases, sold in 150g pots - in 0% Fat Greek Style; 0% Fat Greek Style with vanilla; whole milk; and Greek style. These can then be combined with a choice of eight toppings, available in 40g to 60g pots: oat granola; orange-infused granola; mixed seeds; chocolate chips; summer fruits compote; apple & berry compote; honey sauce; and toffee sauce.
Each pot of yoghurt base and topping costs 50p; Tesco and Yeo Valley are recommending two toppings be used for each yoghurt.
The range started going into 160 Tesco stores earlier this month, where they are sited across three shelves in the yoghurt fixture.
A spokeswoman for Yeo Valley said the ‘yoghurt bar’ concept had been developed in partnership with the Tesco dairy team, and was currently being rolled out on a trial basis. It would be introduced to more stores if it proved successful with consumers, she added.
“The idea came about following the success of the personalisation trend, with consumer wanting to tailor what they buy to meet their own specific tastes or needs,” she said. “Yeo Valley’s new Pick ‘n’ Mix yoghurt range seeks to address this.”
A spokeswoman for Tesco said Pick ‘n’ Mix was ideally suited to on-the-go snacking. “We are working in partnership with Yeo Valley to deliver a fantastic range of convenient and healthy yoghurt snacks, perfect for people on the go. Customers will be able to choose from a variety of yoghurts, compotes and toppings to create their favourite flavour combination.”
