Tesco has announced that Barnardos will be its charity of the year for 2003. The multiple's staff are all set to begin a year-long programme of fundraising, which is hoped will raise some £2.5m for Barnardos' Building Blocks Appeal.
All money raised by Tesco staff will fund Barnardos' work towards eradicating child poverty in the UK.
Tesco's director for corporate social responsibility, Fiona Mason, said: "I hope the money raised by our staff will make a real difference to Barnardos' work fighting child poverty and giving vulnerable children back their childhood.
"Last year we raised over £2m for Cystic Fibrosis. This year we are looking to eclipse that amount through fun and innovative ways of fundraising up and down the country."
