Tesco’s banking division is to create 1,000 jobs in Northern Rock’s heartland of Newcastle.
Tesco today announced its plans to recruit 1,000 staff at its new sales and service centre in the city as the government prepares to put Northern Rock’s lending assets on the block.
Hiring will begin early next year, although the first 500 extra staff will not begin work until the end of 2010. The new jobs will be in customer sales and service for Tesco Bank’s home and motor insurance customers, The Times reported.
Tesco’s insurance partner, Fortis, announced it would create 550 UK jobs as a consequence of the venture.
